We focus on exploring the relationship between the perceived parenting style and the self-concept of adolescents aged 10 to 20 years. We accepted the assumption of a significant relation of parenting and their child's self-concept. Adam Homa*, Monika Hricová

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(2):45-54 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.007

We know little about the ethical challenges that members of helping professions face, which can influence their mental or emotional stability as well as their professional behaviour. This research aimed to examine the content of ethical dilemmas and problematic ethical decision-making among helping professionals by using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). We conducted semi-structured interviews with five female respondents who were practicing psychologists specializing in counselling and school psychology at the time of data collection. The results showed that ethical dilemmas described in the professional literature usually occur in psychological...

Initial Slovak Adaptation of the Burnout Assessment Tool-Core Symptoms (bat-c) for Students

Richard Gamrát*, Pavol Kačmár

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(2):55-67 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.008

Burnout research focusing on students has grown in recent years. Validated burnout complaint measures are, therefore, of importance. Thus, the present study is focused on providing initial information about the psychometric properties of the core symptoms of the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT-C; Schaufeli, Desart & De Witte, 2020) for students in Slovakia. Our sample consisted of 150 students. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicated that the theoretically preferred second-order factor model (four first-order factors - exhaustion, mental distance, cognitive impairment, and emotional impairment - and one second-order factor, burnout) did not fit...

The snoezelen concept as a part of sexuality development in the "listen to yourself" programme for women with intellectual disabilities

Karolína Tvarůžková

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(2):68-79 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.009

Sexuality is an integral part of every individual's life, including people with intellectual disabilities, whose sexuality has long been neglected and tabooed. Although these taboos are gradually being overcome, the topic remains sensitive and controversial. Sexual education often focuses primarily on preventing abuse and ensuring safe sexual practices, while support groups for women with intellectual disabilities remain rare. However, these groups can provide a space for education, sharing, and self-awareness, particularly in areas such as boundaries, intimacy, relationships, and parenthood. This article presents the results of a study aimed at developing...

Viktória Sunyík, Branislav Uhrecký

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(1):37-44 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.006

This paper focuses on a discourse analysis of the communication strategies used by disinformation media to present unsubstantiated, distorted, and misleading information about the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer as trustworthy, while simultaneously casting doubt on standard medical procedures. The analysis included 14 articles from three disinformation websites. The main discursive practises identified in the analysis were: the use of categorical statements, appeals to emotion, the use of statistical and scientific terminology and appeals to authority, conspiracy narratives and the idealisation of natural treatments. The findings contribute...

Veronika Malínková, Martin Dolejš

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(1):26-36 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.004

In this article, we present selected findings from a qualitative study focused on adolescents in children's homes and their perception of psychological and social support provided by their environment. Specifically, we examine caregivers, who were most frequently mentioned as providers of practical support, less often emotional support, and who overall emerged as key figures influencing the overall well-being of adolescents in this setting. We identify the traits and abilities of both favored and unfavored caregivers from the perspective of these adolescents. Additionally, we outline experts' views on the dynamics of the adolescent-caregiver relationship....

Adéla Hanáková, Eva Urbanovská

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(1):17-25 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.005

This study focuses on evaluating self-concept in individuals with neuromuscular diseases using the standardized Self-Concept Questionnaire (DOS-36). The research sample consisted of 29 respondents with various types of neuromuscular diseases aged 22-65 years. More than half of the respondents (51.72%) showed low scores in physical appearance and one-third (34.48%) in meaning and self-realization. The overall self-concept score (46.21 points) suggests a slightly below-average evaluation....
