We know little about the ethical challenges that members of helping professions face, which can influence their mental or emotional stability as well as their professional behaviour. This research aimed to examine the content of ethical dilemmas and problematic ethical decision-making among helping professionals by using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). We conducted semi-structured interviews with five female respondents who were practicing psychologists specializing in counselling and school psychology at the time of data collection. Richard Gamrát*, Pavol Kačmár

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(2):55-67 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.008

Burnout research focusing on students has grown in recent years. Validated burnout complaint measures are, therefore, of importance. Thus, the present study is focused on providing initial information about the psychometric properties of the core symptoms of the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT-C; Schaufeli, Desart & De Witte, 2020) for students in Slovakia. Our sample consisted of 150 students. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicated that the theoretically preferred second-order factor model (four first-order factors - exhaustion, mental distance, cognitive impairment, and emotional impairment - and one second-order factor, burnout) did not fit...

Diskuze v psychologii 2024, 6(2):68-79 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2025.009

Sexuality is an integral part of every individual's life, including people with intellectual disabilities, whose sexuality has long been neglected and tabooed. Although these taboos are gradually being overcome, the topic remains sensitive and controversial. Sexual education often focuses primarily on preventing abuse and ensuring safe sexual practices, while support groups for women with intellectual disabilities remain rare. However, these groups can provide a space for education, sharing, and self-awareness, particularly in areas such as boundaries, intimacy, relationships, and parenthood. This article presents the results of a study aimed at developing...

We focus on exploring the relationship between the perceived parenting style and the self-concept of adolescents aged 10 to 20 years. We accepted the assumption of a significant relation of parenting and their child's self-concept. In the research, 1483 adolescents from Slovakia in an average age of 14.95 years participated (55.5 % of females). They attended the secondary level of education (ISCED 2 and 3). We used two research methods: Parenting Style Inventory II PSI-II and Questionnaire of Self-concept DOS-18. We created a new model of parenting style consisting of responsiveness and autonomy granting, and we compared the groups of the parents with...
