We focus on exploring the relationship between the perceived parenting style and the self-concept of adolescents aged 10 to 20 years. We accepted the assumption of a significant relation of parenting and their child's self-concept. In the research, 1483 adolescents from Slovakia in an average age of 14.95 years participated (55.5 % of females). They attended the secondary level of education (ISCED 2 and 3). We used two research methods: Parenting Style Inventory II PSI-II and Questionnaire of Self-concept DOS-18. We created a new model of parenting style consisting of responsiveness and autonomy granting, and we compared the groups of the parents with high, resp. low levels of these variables. We identified that the responsiveness and the autonomy granting of the parents are key components of the upbringing determining the self-concept of the adolescents.
