#QuédateEnCasa, because it's not just flu: The impact of cognitive authorities' communication on human behaviour during the pandemics
Kristína Böhmer
Diskuze v psychologii 2020, 2(2):33-47 | DOI: 10.5507/dvp.2020.006
The main objective of this study is to point out the importance of communication by cognitive authorities, in this case of political elites, during the health crisis. Their rhetoric can have an enormous impact on the behaviour of the general population. If these cognitive authorities recommend following the advice of health authorities, people are more likely to follow the advice. This can come out as a crucial factor in preventing the spread of the virus during any epidemics. A virus could be more predictable if human behaviour were predictable as well. Confirming the impact of cognitive authorities on the general public's behaviour during a health...

Perceived threats from out-groups play a significant role in negative intergroup relations. The aim of our study was to explore what types of threats young Slovaks feel from three out-groups: immigrants from African and Arab countries, the Roma, and Slovak Hungarians. By conducting six focus groups (N = 42) with university students (M = 22), we identified several concerns about these out-groups. We found out that they can be categorized into four threat types in line with Stephan et al. (2009): (1) symbolic group threats, (2) symbolic individual threats, (3) realistic group threats, and (4) realistic individual threats. However, we identified...

In the article we present the results of the research, which focuses on the production of risky behavior in the context of selected personality traits of adolescents visiting the lower secondary education: elementary schools and multiannual grammar schools (ZŠG) and adolescents from orphanages with schools and educational institutions (DDŠVÚ). As a research tool, we used The Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS, Dolejš, 2012). The research sample consisted of 2353 Czech adolescents from elementary schools and multiannual grammar schools; 217 Czech adolescents from orphanages with schools and educational institutions. The total sample consisted of...

DCD is a neurodevelopmental disorder manifesting in difficulties in the motor performance, but also secondarily affects the overall psychosocial development of the given individual. Although the prevalence of DCD is up to 6%, it is an overlooked diagnosis in this country. No tool was available to identify motor deficits until the Czech version of the MABC-2 Test was published. This test assesses whether the motor performance of a child is below the expected level, given the chronological age (diagnostic criterion A for DCD). However, within the Czech environment we still lack a tool to assess the diagnostic criterion B, the impact of these deficits...
