Experiences of anxiety, stress, loneliness and well-being of parents during the first and second wave of coronavirus pandemic in Slovakia
- Výskumný ústav detskej psychológie a patopsychológie, Cyprichova 42, 831 05 Bratislava, Slovensko
The aim of the study was to explore the level of well-being, stress, anxiety and loneliness experienced by parents in the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Slovakia (April-May 2020) and compare it with the onset of the second wave in October 2020. In the first research phase, 457 respondents took part; 125 of them participated in the second phase. The online form included measures of well-being (WHO-5), anxiety (GAD-7), loneliness (DJGLS-6) and perceived stress (PSS-10). During the first wave of the pandemic, slightly reduced well-being and moderate levels of stress, anxiety and loneliness were reported on average. Using TSCA, 4 clusters of parents were identified. Around 10% of respondents with serious overall negative experiences can be considered at risk. In the second wave, there was a significant decrease of well-being, anxiety and emotional loneliness. The generalisation of results is limited by the size and distribution of the sample, with a high proportion of women.
Keywords: Covid-19 pandemic; well-being; stress; anxiety; loneliness.
