AB The base for this article is the master thesis that aims at the parenthood readiness of young adults in relation to attachment theory and other factors (gender, age, aspects of relationship and subjective developmental status). The theoretical work is based on the concept of attachment theory, knowledge of developmental psychology and related research. A quantitative online survey was conducted on a sample of young adults in the Czech Republic aged 18-35, N = 659. We created a questionnaire of our own construction and a Shortened Czech version of Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR-CZ) was used to identify the attachment style. Using statistical tests, we concluded that a secure attachment style is in connection with a higher degree of parenthood readiness. On the contrary, the difference in perceived parenthood readiness between men and women was not found. Other results of statistical tests, in the context of remaining factors, indicate that parenthood readiness is related to age, subjective developmental status, and length of relationship, relationship satisfaction and the way of cohabitation.
